월스트리트 저널은 한국과 미국이 한반도에 미군 유지 비용을 분담하는 데 거의 합의에 이르렀다 고 밝혔다.
이 신문은 양국 관리들을 인용 해 바이든과 한국 정부가 한반도에 주둔 한 미군의 비용을 분담하는 방법에 대한 수년간의 분쟁을 해결할 새로운 5 년 계약에 가까워 졌다고 보도했습니다.
이 보고서는 미국이 이달 초 일본과 1 년 동안 비용 분담 협정을 연장하면서 병행 합의에 도달하면서 회담의 진전이 있었다고 말했다.
신문은이 두 가지 외교적 조치는 중요한 동맹국들과의 유대를 강화하고 트럼프 행정부의 거래 방식을 제쳐두고 미국과의 오랜 관계를 악화시킨 차이를 해결하기위한 바이든 행정부의 더 광범위한 추진의 일부라고 말했다.
기사에 따르면 한국의 협상에서 당면한 문제는 미군 3 만명을 유지하는 데 드는 비용이 거의 20 억 달러에 달하며, 현재 한국은 거의 절반을 지불하고있다.
마지막 SMA (Special Procedures Agreement)는 2019 년 말 만료되었고 양측은 딜 갱신으로 막 다른 골목에 도달했습니다. 서울시는 지불금을 13 % 인상하겠다고 제안했지만 트럼프 전 행정부는 50 % 인상을 요청했다.
