Samsung is teasing its first under-display camera, but it isn’t hitting phones

In September last year, ZTE unveiled the world’s first phone with an under-screen camera. While the ZTE Axon 20 5G is currently the only phone with a selfie camera under the screen, the technology is expected to become more popular by the end of this year. Samsung, which has been rumored to be working on under-screen camera technology for a long time now, will also be launching its first under-display camera phone this year.

Although Samsung hasn’t detailed the camera technology under the screen yet, today Samsung Display has posted a video at Weibo, And the excitement of new OLED panels with selfie cameras below the screen. However, Samsung Display’s new bottom display technology is not intended for use in smartphones. It will come to laptops first.

As can be seen from the video above, Samsung’s under-display camera technology will make it possible for laptops to have nearly bezel-less screens with a screen-to-body ratio of 93%. The plate is also incredibly thin, at 1mm thick and weighing 130g. Samsung Display hasn’t shared more details about the technology yet, so it’s not clear if Samsung’s first “Blade Bezel” laptops will arrive later this year.

It is rumored that the first Samsung phone with a camera under the screen is the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which will be a follow-up to one of the best Android phones launched last year. Since the foldable phone is only expected to be launched in the second half of the year, we may learn more about Samsung’s under-screen camera technology for phones in the coming months.
